The factors outlined here may help you on your journey to choose great tile for your project by breaking down the decision into smaller pieces.  ## Things fall to the ground. The kitchen is where you prepare meals, and part of that food eventually spills onto the floor, making your kitchen floor stain-prone. The stain resistance of different tile hues and materials varies. Lighter colors are more likely to reveal stains than darker colors. ## Make your grout look like it's not there. While new grout appears to be clean and sharp, you should consider how your grout will look after several years of use. Grout deteriorates over time, especially if it is in constant touch with water, and may need to be replaced at some point. Because white grout tends to darken with age, it's a good idea to pick a grout color that complements your tile. ## Consider the final product. When it comes to finishes, one thing to think about is whether they will become slippery when wet. In addition, the durability of various tile coatings varies. Glazed tiles are popular, but if hard things are dropped on or moved across them, they can be damaged with nicks or scratches. ## Match the tile size to the kitchen's dimensions. The size of your tile should complement rather than compete with the size of your kitchen, according to a rule of thumb rather than a hard and fast rule. Large tiles can be overwhelming in a tiny kitchen, while a large expanse of little tiles in a large kitchen can appear cluttered.   [![Get A Quote Raymond Design](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/7636567/2e7e847b-5409-4b63-a238-cabafd1936b3.png)](https://cta-redirect.hubspot.com/cta/redirect/7636567/2e7e847b-5409-4b63-a238-cabafd1936b3) [![Big Plans Start in The Fall: Remodel Smarter, Live Better](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/hubfs/April,%20May,%20June/PequotGolfRm_-9481.jpeg)](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/big-plans-start-in-the-fall-remodel-smarter-live-better) #### [Big Plans Start in The Fall: Remodel Smarter, Live Better](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/big-plans-start-in-the-fall-remodel-smarter-live-better) ![Picture of Winnie Shem](https://app.hubspot.com/settings/avatar/709e6922bd8a9db73e2e94476f2e6dea) [Winnie Shem](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/author/winnie-shem): Oct 10, 2025 10:30:00 AM [Blog](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/tag/blog) [Read More](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/big-plans-start-in-the-fall-remodel-smarter-live-better) [![5 Reasons People Renovate—and How WE HELP](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/hubfs/April,%20May,%20June/PequotGolfRm_-9481.jpeg)](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/july-in-fairfield-county-celebrate-reimagine-and-create-a-home-that-fits-you) #### [5 Reasons People Renovate—and How WE HELP](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/july-in-fairfield-county-celebrate-reimagine-and-create-a-home-that-fits-you) ![Picture of Winnie Shem](https://app.hubspot.com/settings/avatar/709e6922bd8a9db73e2e94476f2e6dea) [Winnie Shem](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/author/winnie-shem): Jul 3, 2025 10:00:00 AM [Blog](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/tag/blog) [Read More](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/july-in-fairfield-county-celebrate-reimagine-and-create-a-home-that-fits-you) [![The Best Fall Events Near Fairfield County, CT (2023)](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/hubfs/Smiling%20family%20having%20a%20picnic%20in%20a%20foresty%20area-1.jpg)](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/the-best-fall-events-near-fairfield-county-ct-2023) #### [The Best Fall Events Near Fairfield County, CT (2023)](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/the-best-fall-events-near-fairfield-county-ct-2023) [Jason Raymond](https://blog.raymonddesignbuilders.com/news-info/author/jason-raymond): Oct 10, 2023 6:28:44 PM The seasons are a’changing.
